OffshoreWind

A proud legacy of delivering for offshore wind customers

ABP has over 30 years’ experience in servicing the UK’s offshore energy industry, supporting developers through the full offshore wind project lifecycle

ABP has a strong track record in developing new facilities and providing services tailored to meet every aspect of offshore wind development, maintenance and operation. Examples include the £310 million offshore wind facility at Green Port Hull, a joint investment by Siemens and ABP, whilst Grimsby, Barrow and Lowestoft have emerged as leading centres of offshore wind operation and maintenance.

Over recent years, together with its customers, ABP has invested over £300 million to support the growth of offshore wind.

Our extensive land bank at key strategic port locations ideally located to major offshore wind development sites, means ABP is well placed to continue to support the continued growth of the sector.

No other port operator gets you closer, meaning our port locations offer the most cost-effective solutions for offshore wind development and operation.

Enabling Net Zero

Building on strong connections with a wide range of industries and authorities, ABP is in a unique position to play a pivotal role in delivering a more sustainable UK. This is through our own activities but also through working with a range of different organisations to share and accelerate progress.

We are redefining what Keeping Britain Trading means in the greener, cleaner economy of the future. This is reflected in the launch of our sustainability strategy, ‘Ready for Tomorrow’, which sets out our plan to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions from our own operations by 2040 by the latest.

As part of our sustainability strategy, ABP is planning to invest around £1.4bn in infrastructure and facilities to support customers involved in the energy transition.

This includes working with businesses in key UK industrial clusters such as the Humber and South Wales, as well as playing our part in dramatically reducing emissions in global shipping.

To make Net Zero a reality, it is essential that there is a partnership approach, both between industry players, but also between governments and industry itself.

Providing the perfect base for offshore wind projects

ABP has the ability to work with customers to support the full offshore wind development cycle.

ABPmer, our hydrographic and marine survey consultancy, and our UK Dredging operation, offer specialist services and consultancy during the planning phase of offshore sites. During the build-phase, our ports offer the perfect location, people, equipment and transport connectivity. For the operations and maintenance phase, ABP’s ports handle the crew transfer and maintenance vessels, as well as having the potential to house the crews and engineers.

We also offer services for decommissioning or re-powering many of the largest offshore wind projects, such as the £1 billion, 650MW Walney offshore wind farm in the North West of England, one of the largest anywhere in the world.

Utilising our port locations, we are well positioned to offer a multi-port distribution package with one consolidated contractual agreement, offering significant benefits for your business.

If you would like to find out more about how ABP can help your business please get in touch with our sector expert, Andy Reay.

Celtic Freeport

Celtic Freeport is an exciting project that will unlock the widest possible opportunities for Wales by accelerating innovation and encouraging significant investment, while fast-tracking modern skills for new green industries and national decarbonisation.

ABP is planning to invest around £500 million to develop new and repurposed infrastructure in Port Talbot to enable the port to host manufacturing, installation, and supply chain activity for the Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW) sector. This has the potential to create 16,000 new, high-quality jobs and attract £5.5 billion inward investment.

LEEF: Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility

LEEF is a £25 million investment by ABP in state-of-the-art infrastructure to support the offshore energy sector. Designed to support offshore energy projects in the Southern North Sea, the award-winning LEEF project will attract many offshore energy supply chain companies to Lowestoft, bringing new jobs and prosperity to the area whilst safeguarding the important kittiwake population.
