Sizewell C
ABP’s East Anglian ports of Ipswich and Lowestoft are your gateway to Sizewell C.
When constructed, Sizewell C would be one of the largest nuclear power plants in the UK, contributing significantly to the UK’s energy infrastructure.
Due to the size and complexity of the project, the amount of materials needed is vast, with it expected to be one of the largest infrastructure projects in the history of the UK.
The transportation, storage and delivery of these materials requires careful planning and coordination, in order to address environmental and logistical considerations.
The logistics support for the Sizewell C supply chain offered by ABP includes experience in handling heavy lift and project cargoes, multimodal connectivity, deep sea access, the construction of bespoke warehousing and more.
ABP’s team at Lowestoft and Ipswich have extensive experience in the handling of many types of material and project cargo, and the expertise to deliver the right solutions for your business.
EDF has taken options for three parcels of land across the ports of Ipswich and Lowestoft, which are ideally positioned for many uses, including the handing of aggregate from a virtual quarry, storage of AIL’s (abnormal indivisible loads), steel and general cargo.

Delivering for our customers
ABP’s Port of Immingham is the leading UK port specialising in the safe, efficient and cost-effective handling of cargoes for the energy sector. Our teams have worked collaboratively with customers to deliver leading-edge handling and storage solutions such as the state-of-the-art Immingham Renewable Fuels Terminal (IRFT), the world’s largest biomass handling facility.
IRFT compliments ABP’s other major bulk handling facility, Humber International Terminal (HIT), also located in Immingham, where a dedicated team works 24/7 to deliver the highest standards of service, discharging cargo from some of the largest vessels in the world.
ABP has invested more than £500 million in the last few years in port facilities, equipment and training. Connectivity
Our ports around Britain offer quick and efficient connections to cargo origins and destinations, all benefitting from excellent marine, road, and rail connectivity.
Immingham in particular is capable of handling some of the largest vessels in the world. Our Humber ports are the closest ports linking the major power stations in the north of England.
ABP’s East Anglian ports of Lowestoft and Ipswich are ideally placed to support EDF’s transport strategy that will see 60% of freight for Sizewell C moved by sea and rail. Lowestoft is situated only 20 nautical miles away and only 28 miles by road. Similarly, Ipswich is 33 nautical miles away and only 37 miles by road. As tri-modal ports, both Ipswich and Lowestoft have access to rail sidings, which makes them ideal for material to be delivered by rail to site, taking HGV’s off the road and saving customers time and money.
