Making sure our colleagues go home safely every day is first and foremost in everything we do and our ongoing Beyond Zero programme has set a challenging objective: no accidents at ABP.
Beyond Zero is an ongoing journey to create a positive and proactive safety, health and well-being culture across ABP.
Beyond Zero is about every member of the ABP team going home safe and well at the end of every shift.

Our vision is to ensure that in fulfilling our mission of ‘Keeping Britain Trading’ we keep our employees, contractors and visitors safe, healthy and well because Every Person Matters to ABP.
Beyond Zero describes the way we do things in ABP. It provides a common understanding of what is important and helps to ensure we all make the right decisions in relation to our values in everything we do.
We do it safely, or we stop the job and find a safe way.
We respect each and every person for their unique contribution to what we do.
We work with integrity and take pride in teamwork, supporting each other, looking after each other and providing great service as a result.
These behaviours will help us all to bring our Beyond Zero values to life each and every day.
Be clear - we will be consistent and reliable in our communication, promoting openness and trust and ensuring that every person is clear that safety is integral to everything we do. Safety is not a priority – it is a core value and as such we should demonstrate it authentically in everything we say and do.
Be respectful – it is only by working together that we can achieve great results and respect is key to this. Appreciate your colleagues for their contribution and support each other in a respectful way.
Be an inspiration – seek to inspire your colleagues to do the very best they can. Respectfully challenge the way we do things and engage your teams for continuous improvement.
Make it fun – everything is better, easier and more successful if we have fun. Safety is a serious matter, but staying safe and well can be fun and finding innovative solutions to safety problems is a great way to demonstrate this.
Embedding a safety-led culture is a critical step towards eliminating harm and creating a great place to work. The continuous emphasis on behavioural safety has witnessed teams of front-line colleagues taking part in an extended range of safety culture and leadership courses.
We are also deploying new technologies, such as Virtual Reality, to help raise awareness amongst colleagues about the dangers and challenges of the workplace.
Across the business, ABP has continued to progress its Beyond Zero safety programme and rolled-out a new Marine and Compliance intranet for staff. We have also implemented an electronic version of our ‘Spot it’ safety and environmental reporting system on all company mobile phones. We’ve seen great take up of our Occupational Health Provision programme and have launched an Employee Assistance Programme, offering telephone, online and face-to-face counselling services with trained specialists as well as wellbeing and financial advice.
